Mechanism of action of silica fume for rubber additives

Features of silica fume for rubber additives
- Strong tensile properties and anti-tear properties are similar to semi-reinforced carbon black, significantly higher than other fillers.
- The test data of vulcanizing instrument shows that compared with semi-complementary carbon black, the flow time in the mold is longer under the same condition of positive vulcanizing time, which is better than other fillers, and it is an ideal material to replace semi-complementary carbon black partially or completely.
- The 300% fixed tensile stress, strong tensile property and tear resistance of vulcanized rubber are improved, and other physical properties are similar to active calcium.
- Rubber supply to add micro silica powder to replace part of the silica: micro silica powder and silica specific surface area and particle size are not in the same class, simple structure, good dispersion.
- Adding Silica Fume to replace active calcium in rubber supply in equal amount: the finished tires can fully reach the performance level and use requirements of the normal supply formula. The performance is better than that of active calcium.
- Compared with other filling and reinforcing agents, silica fume added to rubber supply has great advantages in both performance and price.
Application of silica fume in room temperature vulcanization of silicon
- The sagging degree of sealant is not affected when silica fume partially or fully replaces calcium carbonate as filler. With the increase of adding proportion of micro silica powder, the extrusion rate rises quickly. The combined effect of sagging degree and extrusion rate indicates that the thixotropy of silica fume in sealant is good.
- With the increase of silica fume addition, the tensile bond strength of the specimen showed an increasing trend. The tensile strength increased by 24.4% when calcium carbonate was completely replaced by silica fume as filler. It shows that the complementary effect of silica fume in sealant is better than that of calcium carbonate.
- The elongation at break of the specimen tended to decrease with the increase of the addition of silica fume, probably because the silica fume contained larger particles due to the wide particle size distribution. If the silica fume is graded, it is believed that the problem of low elongation at break can be solved well.
- The use of micro-silica powder as filler will not lead to the decrease of sealant bonding performance.
